Album Questions

What’s a flush mount album?

A flush mount album is an album that is made with panoramic spreads that are mounted directly to the album pages. The pages lay flat on the table when you open them.

What’s the difference between a page and a spread?

A spread consists of two pages. All of our albums feature panoramic spreads.  There is a very subtle crease that runs between the two pages that make up the spread.  The albums open up to the inside cover that is blank. The photo spreads begin after the first page is turned.

How do I know how many spreads to order?

Here are a couple of general guidelines regarding the number of photos you should upload:

  • For a 20-page (10 spreads) album we recommend between 50-60 photos.
  • For a 30-page (15 spreads) album we recommend between 60-70 photos.
  • For a 40-page (20 spreads) album we recommend between 70-80 photos.
  • For a 50-page (25 spreads) album we recommend between 80-90 photos.
What kind of printer and paper do you use?

We run a traditional “wet lab” and print all of our album spreads using a laser printer that prints at 1200 DPI. We use archival grade Fuji Lustre Silver Halide paper.  Fuji Lustre is a professional grade photo paper that has rich saturated colors and a subtle texture.  Archival grade papers are very resilient and are designed to last up to 100 years.

How do you bind your albums?

We use a proprietary dry-mount process to bind and assemble the album to prevent warping and distortions. The spreads are dry-mounted on thin but sturdy boards that are made of compressed cotton.  Each spread is about 1-2 mm thick.  This allows our pages to be sturdy yet sleek and very modern looking.

How large are your cover cameos?
  • 12 x 12 albums: 5 x 5 cameo
  • 10 x 10 albums: 4 x 4 cameo
  • 11 x 14 albums: 5 x7 cameo
  • 12 x 9 albums: 9 x 6 cameo
What font and size do you use to emboss my album?

We use size 24 Goudy Light for the first line of embossing. Most customers put their names on the first line of embossing.  We use size 12 Goudy Light for the second line, which is usually where most customers put a date on.  We offer silver, gold, or clear embossing.

How can I properly maintain my album?

Please store your album in a temperature and humidity-controlled environment. Avoid placing the album under direct sunlight or in an excessively hot environment.  Excessive heat can cause the adhesives to melt and warp. Use a soft cloth to remove fingerprints and avoid using water or any solvents on the cover or interior spreads.

Design Questions

How long does it take you to design an album?

Once we receive your photos, we’ll send your design to you within 7 days.

How many revisions do I get?

All of our albums include two revisions free of charge. Subsequent revisions are $20.00 each.  We spend quite a bit of time working with our clients to design the perfect album so it’s rare that it takes more than two revisions to finalize a design.

Can I review the design before you print it?

Absolutely! We’ll send your design to you via our album proofing software.  You will be able to review each spread and address any comments and concerns.

Can I design my own album and send it to you to print and bind?

Yes! If you would like to design your own album, please contact us beforehand.  We will provide you with our design specifications (bleed lines and trim marks) so you can design your own spreads.

Do you color correct my photos?

Yes! We color correct all of your photos prior to printing them.   If you don’t want us to color correct your photos, please let us know in the comments section when you are placing your order.
